Daiquiri Recipes with a Twist

Did you know that the daiquiri was originally served shaken, not blended? According to Difford’s Guide, the popular cocktail is renowned for its frozen iteration, the original daiquiri is as classic as it gets – a shaken combination of rum, sugar and lime!

The daiquiri is believed to have been created in the late 1800s in Cuba, specifically in a small town called Daiquiri near Santiago. The exact origins of this classic cocktail are still debated. Some claim that it was initially developed as a medicinal treatment, while others speculate that it was a result of a resource limitation, with locals improvising a drink using the available rum when whiskey or gin were not accessible. As is often the case with cocktails, it’s challenging to determine the definitive truth, but it’s likely that both stories contain elements of truth.

One of the most renowned fans of the daiquiri was none other than Ernest Hemingway, the celebrated author. In honour of his love for the drink, a variation named after him was created – the Hemingway daiquiri. This delightful twist on the classic recipe includes the addition of grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur, resulting in a refreshing and flavourful concoction. If you’re a fan of daiquiris or simply looking to try something new, the Hemingway daiquiri is definitely worth a taste.

Whether you prefer the traditional daiquiri or the Hemingway variation, both are enjoyable options that have stood the test of time. So next time you’re in the mood for a flavorful and historically significant cocktail, be sure to give the daiquiri a try. Cheers!
