Bugging Out?

TRY THESE NATURAL WAYS TO KEEP BUGS AT BAY THIS SUMMER!

1) CITRONELLA CANDLES

Citronella oil is a natural insect repellent. Lighting citronella candles or using citronella oil in diffusers can help repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.

2) ESSENTIAL OILS

Certain essential oils have insect-repelling properties. Peppermint, eucalyptus, lemongrass, lavender, and tea tree oil are known to deter bugs. Dilute a few drops of these oils in water and spray the mixture around windows, doorways, and outdoor areas.

3) PLANT INSECT- REPELLENT HERBS

Planting herbs like basil, rosemary, mint, and lemongrass around your garden or patio can naturally deter insects. Their strong scents can help keep bugs away.

4) REMOVE STANDING WATER

Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so eliminate any sources of stagnant water in your yard. Empty bird baths, regularly change pet water bowls and ensure proper drainage to minimize mosquito breeding grounds.

5) USE NATURAL REPELLENTS

There are natural insect repellents available that use ingredients like neem oil, soybean oil, or lemon eucalyptus oil. Look for products that are DEET-free and environmentally friendly.

6) INSTALL SCREENS

Use window and door screens to keep bugs out while allowing fresh air to circulate. Repair any damaged screens to ensure they are effective.

7) KEEP OUTDOOR AREAS CLEAN

Regularly clean up your outdoor spaces to remove debris, trash, and food particles that can attract bugs. Trim overgrown vegetation and mow the lawn regularly to minimize bug habitats.

8) WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING

When spending time outdoors, wear lightcoloured, loose-fitting clothing that covers your arms and legs. This can help reduce bug bites.

9) USE FANS

Flying insects, like mosquitoes, are weak fliers. Having fans running in outdoor areas creates a breeze that makes it difficult for them to fly, reducing their presence.

10) AVOID PEAK MOSQUITO ACTIVITY TIMES

Mosquitoes are most active during dawn and dusk. If possible, limit your outdoor activities during these times to minimize exposure to bugs.

Remember that while these methods can help reduce bug encounters, they may not completely eliminate them. For severe bug problems or areas with disease-carrying insects, it’s recommended to consult with a professional pest control service.
