A Cool Companion to Beat The Summer Heat
In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the coffee landscape as more and more people are embracing the art of making coffee at home. The allure of the coffee shop experience, once a daily ritual for many, is now being replaced by the joy of crafting a delicious cup of joe in the comfort of one’s own home. And while a hot cup of coffee has its appeal all year round, there’s nothing quite like the refreshing taste of iced coffee to keep us cool and energized as the hot summer heat beats down.
Traditionally made by pouring hot coffee over ice, this refreshing beverage is highly customizable. Users can choose their preferred coffee beans, milk (dairy or plant-based), sweeteners, and favourite syrups to create a personalized iced coffee experience. The coffee can be made using various coffee makers such as a French press, percolator, or drip coffee machine, among others. For an exhilarating jolt, replace the coffee with espresso and turn the specialty beverage into an iced latte.
Investing in quality coffee beans and a premium coffee machine can help enhance the experience to help get the job done. Take the guesswork out of the brewing stage with a quality espresso machine, like the Barista Touch™ Impress by Breville. Enjoy step-by-step barista guidance with real-time feedback as it navigates users through the Impress™ Puck System and precise extraction to get the perfect shot of espresso. Go even further with milk options; As the first espresso machine of its kind for plant-based milk functionality, select between dairy and three plant-based options including soy, oat, and almond.
Savour the blissful moments of summer while staying cool with your favourite coffee creation, like this iced latte recipe by Breville.
What You’ll Need:
• Espresso Machine
• Coffee Grinder
• Tall Glass
• Cold Milk of Your Choice
• Double Espresso Shot
• Ice Cubes
Steps:
1. Preparation: Pour 180ml of cold milk into the glass and drop in a handful of ice cubes.
2. Grind and Tamp: Grind between 18-22g of freshly roasted coffee beans. Give the portafilter a few gentle taps to settle the grounds before tamping on a level surface. Remember, consistent pressure is key. Use the Razor tool after tamping to ensure you have the correct dose – it precisely controls the height of the tamped coffee. Note: If you’re using the Breville Barista Touch™ Impress, grind and tamp your coffee using the built-in Impress™ Puck System.
3. Extract the Espresso Shot: Place the portafilter into the group head. Twist until it’s firmly in place. Then extract a double espresso into a small jug or glass. A double shot should give you an extraction time of around 30 seconds. Look for a flow that looks like warm honey and crema topping of pure black coffee.
4. Assemble your Iced Latte: Pour the hot espresso over the milk and ice and swirl to blend it together.
Tip: As the ice and milk will dilute the flavours, choose a robust, darker roast of coffee to help achieve better balance.
